WORCESTER, Mass. – Coming off a road victory, the Clark Volleyball team hosted Amherst College on Friday night. The Cougars gave a strong effort and had high numbers in attacks and digs but could not best the visiting Mammoths. The Mammoths defeated the Cougars three sets to zero.
-The Mammoths got up early on the Cougars using strong serving and attacking to take control of the match, eventually winning by a score of 25-14. This set saw the highest number of attacks attempted by the Cougars and also the fewest errors.
-The Cougars fell behind early in the second set falling to 0-4 but fought hard in an attempt to even the score. Points and possession continued to go back and forth and eventually the Cougars would go on a small point run of their own bringing the score back to 12-17. Soon after the Mammoths made their final push to 25. Defeating the Cougars 25-17.
-The third set was where the Mammoths showed the most strength leading the Cougars early with a score of 8-1. The Cougars fought back hard, but in the end, they could not make up the lost points and fell 25-13 in the final set.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-Sophomore, Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan) finished the match with 51 digs. This tired her season high from September 7 against Trinity and put her total digs for the season up to 251.
-Freshman, Claudia Rivera (Guaynabo, PR) was Clark's big hitter of the match, ending with 32 total attacks. She also had three blocks and one of the Cougar's only aces on the night.
-Clark hosts Coast Guard on Tuesday, September 17 at 7 PM for their first conference match. Amherst will host a tri-match with Worcester St. and Brandeis tomorrow, September 14.
