Worcester, Mass.—Clark University senior captains, Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) will be participating in the 2018 New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior Classic All Star Game on December 2nd at Eastern Nazarene College. The match is set to begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Lahue Physical Education Center.
Mercado and Quiban will play alongside 26 of the top Division III women's volleyball players in New England. The All-Star team was made up of 33 of the top New England Division III players as well as nine players who were recognized on the Honorable Mention team.
Mercado finished her senior season ranked second in the NEWMAC in kills with 364 and kills per set with 3.83. She was named the NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week in week one of the season. Mercado wraps up her career with 1,303 kills which is the second highest in program history. She also beat her own personal record for kills in a season that she set as a sophomore (346) and ranks fourth in program history for kills in a season with her new personal record of 364. She also now ranks in the top 10 for career service aces with 123. Mercado was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second team this season.
Quiban was named the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week twice this season and also earned a spot on the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference team. As a junior she was named the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the year, earned a spot on the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team, and was named to the AVCA All-Region and All-American Team. Quiban is now ranked second in Clark's program history with her 1,384 digs. As a junior she recorded a season-best 546 digs which is the most in single-season history for the Clark Volleyball program.
