Cougars Fall in City Showdown at WPI

THE BASICS

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Harrington Auditorium)

-The Lead: The Clark University volleyball team fell to city and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC rival WPI, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-13), Tuesday night in Harrington Auditorium. Prior to the match the seniors from both teams were recognized for their contributions to their respective programs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-After a first set that featured four ties and a pair of lead changes, WPI claimed the next two sets for the straight-set victory.

Senior Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) narrowly missed a double-double for Clark with 16 digs and a team-best eight kills. Classmate Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) handed off 23 of 24 assists and fellow senior Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) logged a match-high 22 digs.

- Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, Mass.) and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, Mass.) each registered a double-double and sophomore Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, N.H.) hit .522 with a match-best 13 kills. Bakhtyari delivered 32 assists and 14 digs and Mullins was the only other student-athlete to notch double-digit kills with 10 to go along with 18 digs. Sophomore Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, Wash.) chipped in with nine swipes. Senior Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, N.H.) paced the Engineers with 15 digs and classmate Casey Hunt (Granby, Ct.) followed with 14.
