-The Lead: The Springfield College women's volleyball team pulled away with a five-set victory over Clark University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Tuesday night. The Pride won by the scores of 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Senior Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) led the way for Clark with 15 kills and a block. Junior Corina Picon (Irvington, N.Y.) followed her lead with 13 kills of her own. Senior Rachel Webb (Celina, Texas) posted a game high 19 digs to go along with 35 assists. Senior Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) added 16 digs, and senior Justine Bohl (Amherst, Mass.) and freshman Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan) each tallied 14 digs. Oka also added three service aces for Clark.
-Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) directed Springfield's offense as she totaled career-high marks in assists (59), digs (13), and aces (5). Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) added 16 kills at a .303 clip. Jen Donnelly (Exeter, R.I.) collected 12 digs and 11 kills, Briana Tovar (Tucson, Ariz.) was credited with a team-best 16 digs, and Katie vonKampen (South Setauket, N.Y.) was dominant at the net with nine kills and six blocks.
-Clark is back in NEWMAC action on Saturday, September 22nd when they travel to Wheaton College for an 11:00 a.m. match.
-Springfield will compete out of region this weekend when they travel to New Jersey where they will face Catholic, Moravian, Cabrini, and host Stockton in the Osprey Classic beginning on Friday evening.
