Westwood, Mass.--Seniors Ana Patricia Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards for week two of the 2018 season. Mercado earned NEWMAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the week recognition while Quiban picked up the Defensive Athlete of the Week title.
It was a milestone week for Mercado, as the senior tallied 77 kils on a .398 clip, committing only nine errors. In a matchup with Tufts, Mercado recorded 18 kills, before racking up 27 kills, including knocking home her 1000th career kill in the second set of the match, in a 3-2 win against Westfield State. Mercado finished off her impressive week with 14 kills against Eastern Connecticut State and 18 kills, with a .500 clip, against Trinity.
In a 2-2 week for the Cougars, Quiban recorded 85 digs. Against Tufts, Quiban tallied 17 digs, before posting 25 in a 3-2 victory over Westfield. Quiban followed up that performance with 14 digs in a win over Eastern Connecticut State, before racking up 29 in a 3-2 setback at Trinity.
Clark is back in action on Tuesday, September 11th as they travel to Coast Guard Academy to open up NEWMAC play at 7:00 p.m.
