-The Lead: The Clark University volleyball team opened the 2018 season with back-to-back victories over the Eagles of Husson University (3-0) and the Lancers of Worcester State University (3-1) on Saturday afternoon. WPI shut out the Lancers and the Eagles in both games of the day (3-0) to improve to 3-0 on their season.

WSU: Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.) and Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.)

HOW IT HAPPENED
CLARK vs. HUSSON
-Clark defeated Husson, 3-0 in the opening game with set scores of 25-12, 25-13, and 26-24. Mercado led the Cougars with 12 kills and junior Corina Picon (Irvington, N.Y.) added 11 as they teamed up for 23 kills in the victory. Sophomore Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Quiban served up two aces each.
-For Husson, Woods led the attack with seven kills. Hembrow handed out 13 assists while Delaney Chisholm came up with six digs. Woods and Hembrow each added service aces in the setback.
WPI vs. WSU
-WPI swept the Lancers by set scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-21 in their first game of the day.
-Sophomores Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, N.H.) and Kwatinetz led the Engineers' attack in game one with 13 kills each. Bakhtyari dished out a tournament high 41 assists while senior Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, N.H.) served up two aces and added 21 digs in the victory.
-Junior Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) led the Lancers with nine kills and two service aces and senior Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) dished out 25 assists. Leavens handed out a team high 20 digs while senior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with 15 digs of her own.
CLARK vs. WSU
-In a four set match, the Cougars were able to take the 3-1 victory over Worcester State in set scores of 25-11, 19-25, 25-14, and 25-17.
-Mercado led the Cougars with a tournament-high 19 kills. Torino handed out 23 assists and served up two aces in the victory. Quiban posted a game-high 17 digs and freshman Ashley Kim (Irvine, Calif.) served up four aces.
-King led the Lancers with 10 kills, seven digs and a service ace. Nolan added 17 assists in the setback.
WPI vs. HUSSON
-In a three-set sweep the Engineers took 25-18, 25-14, and 25-11 victories over the Eagles for the 3-0 final.
-Kwatinetz and senior Casey Hunt (Granby, Conn.) shared the lead as they both posted eight kills for WPI. Wetmore followed with six kills of her own and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, Mass.) trailed with five. Junior Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, Mass.) served up an impressive nine service aces while Mullins and Hunt both added six digs. Bakhtyari came up with 31 assists to propel WPI to victory.
-For Husson, Woods and first year Mary Grace Power (Bellerose Village, N.Y.) posted four kills each. Hembrow added three kills to go along with her team high 14 assists and three service aces. Freshman Adrienne Beatty (Rochester, N.H.) tallied 10 digs.
