-The Lead: The Clark University women's volleyball team extended their win streak to four with two victories over non-conference opponents WCSU and Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon. Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Ana Mercado (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) teamed up in both matches combining for 53 total kills on the day to lead the Cougars to both victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Match One: Clark 3, WCSU 0 (25-18, 25-20 and 25-15)
-Clark swept the Colonials in match one of the day. Ramos and Mercado each tallied 11 digs in the match while Rayme Quiban (Seattle, Wash.) posted a match-high 23 digs to lead the Cougars to victory. Ramos added a match-high three service aces while first year Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif.) dished out 19 assists.
-Colonial's Kamari King (East Hartford, Conn.) led all players with 18 kills and bounced back with a vastly improved .273 hitting percentage.
-Jenna Skerritt (Wolcott, Conn.) handed out 29 dimes and shared the team high with Jenna Pisano (Orange, Conn.) with 13 defensive digs.
Match Two: Clark 3, Plymouth State 0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-18)
-The opening set with the Panthers was back and forth until a late surge by the Cougars pushed the lead to 18-10. PSU rallied late, cutting the margin down to four, 23-19, but the visitors held off the rally to capture a 25-20 win. The second and third sets produced similar results with the Panthers sticking close early before Clark was able to pull away late to earn 25-17 and 25-18 victories.
-Ramos led all players with a match-high 18 kills. Mercado added 13 kills of her own while Torino produced a match-high 33 assists to lift the Cougars to their second sweep of the day.
-Claire Sporer (Medford, Ore.) led the Panthers with nine kills and 15 digs in the late game, with Alexis Bowers (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) adding eight kills. Megan Baily (Canterbury, N.H.) posted 25 assists and Brenna Peruch (Cave Creek, Ariz.) added 10 digs for the hosts.
-Clark hosts New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) oponent WPI on Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00 p.m.
-The Colonials play host to intra-state rival Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m.
-The Panthers remain in Little East Conference play as they face Keene State on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
