Lexington, Ky. – For the second straight season Clark volleyball star Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-New England team it was announced on Monday morning.
The award for Ramos comes following an amazing run of success for her individually and Clark as a team. She earned her second consecutive first-team all-conference honor early last week and it also comes on the heels of the best season in program history.
Clark finished the season third in the league and made its second straight appearance in the conference championship match. Then last Monday, the program earned their first ever bid into the NCAA Tournament, where they knocked off Montclair State, 3-2, on Friday night before falling to regional host Stevens on Saturday.
Ramos, who was named an AVCA All-American a season ago, had another incredible campaign in 2016. She not only became the program's all-time leader in kills (1,173) but broke her own single season kills record with 480 this year.
Arguably one of the best two-way players in the region, Ramos skyrocketed up the program's all-time digs list as well and now sits at 1,150 for her career – good for sixth on the school's all-time list.
She led the conference in kills per set (4.07) and total kills (480) and was the only player in the league to rank in the top ten in those two categories as well as total digs (464, 5th) and digs per set (3.93, 9th).
Ramos had several stellar performances this season, including 20 kills and 22 digs against Endicott, 21 kills and 26 digs against MIT and then a dominant effort in the NCAA Tournament win over the Red Hawks, where she racked up 26 kills and 19 digs.
With back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time in more than a decade, Ramos and a host of other essential pieces will return to the Cougars in 2017.
