Worcester, Mass. – For the second consecutive season, Clark University volleyball standout, Mia Cattaneo (Santa Barbara, Calif.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) second-team all-conference it was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league's Executive Director, Patrick Summers.
The award for Cattaneo comes following a vote of the league's 11 volleyball head coaches.
On the nation's elite defensive players, Cattaneo has rewritten the record book at Clark in the digs category. This season she shattered her own school record of 484 digs in a season set last season by totaling 525 to this point in 2016.
Not only does she hold the top two spots on in the single season category but she became the school's all-time leader (1,769) and now has more than 400 more than Kara Scimeca's previous school record of 1,351.
She enters the NCAA Tournament ranked sixth in the NEWMAC in digs per set (4.61) but ranks fourth in overall digs this season (525).
So far this season, Cattaneo has 11 matches with 20 digs or more, including the second-most in a single match in the conference this season when she corralled 43 in a five set loss to MIT in late September.
With Cattaneo playing a huge role, Clark advanced to back-to-back NEWMAC Tournament Championship matches and is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament beginning this weekend.
