Cougars Split Two At Home Tri-Match

Worcester, Mass. – Salve Regina, won both of its matches including a five-set thriller over host Clark to finish 2-0 at a tri-match that also featured Massachusetts-Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.

The Seahawks, who have now won a school-record 14 matches this season, improves to 14-7, while Clark, which split its two matches, now stands at 8-12, while the Buccaneers remain winless at 0-22.

Game 1: Clark 3, Massachusetts-Maritime 0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-11)
Senior Parker Edmonds (Fort Worth, Texas) totaled a match-high eight kills on .500 hitting as the Cougars rolled in the first contest of the day. Junior Katie Freaney (Old Lyme, Conn.) recorded a career-best 18 assists. Alex Burgess-Chrost (Leominster, Mass.) led the Bucs offensive attack with three kills, while Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) added a pair of her own.

Game 2: Salve Regina 3, Massachusetts-Maritime 0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-11)
The Seahawks, led by Amy Canino (Hebron, Conn.), raced past the Buccaneers in three straight. Canino finished with eight kills and seven digs, while Tara Kuck (Huntington Station, N.Y.) added six kills and eight service aces. As a team, Salve Regina racked up 18 service aces, including six more from Kelsey Stafstrom (Westford, Mass.), who also had 19 assists.

Game 3: Salve Regina 3, Clark 2 (11-25, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 15-8)
In the match of the afternoon, the Seahawks prevailed in five games, despite some monster performances from several Clark players. Salve Regina was led by Clare Adams (New Concord, Ohio), who posted 13 kills and 15 digs, while Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) filled up the stat sheet with nine kills, five digs and eight solo blocks. Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded a match high 35 digs for the victors.

Clark was paced by a career-best 50 assists from sophomore Rachel Spera (North Hollywood, Calif.) and four others who recorded at least ten kills. Kristin McGinty (Vail, Colo.) had 11 kills and seven digs, Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) had 11 kills and 17 digs, while Parker Edmonds (Fort Worth, Texas) added 10 kills and five block assists. Nicole Sullivan (Marshfield, Mass.) recorded a match-high 14 kills to go along with seven block assists.
