Worcester, Mass. – Visiting Roger Williams received ten kills apiece from Natasha Sopchak (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) and Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, Mass.) and won for the ninth time in their last ten matches with a 3-0 win over Clark University in non-conference volleyball action on Thursday evening.
The Hawks won by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and finally 26-24 to improve to 11-3 overall, while the Cougars dropped their fourth straight after winning four in row and now sit at 4-6.
RWU opened up the match hitting .410 and racking up 17 kills en route to a 25-15 win in game one. Clark came out aggressive, and led for portions of the frame before the Hawks went on a run to take the game, 25-18.
Game three was the most competitive of the match, as no team led by more than two points. The Cougars looked poised to take the match when they went ahead 24-23, but Roger Williams recorded three straight points to seal the match.
In addition to her 10 kills, Torpey added 13 digs, while Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) added a match-high 26 digs.
The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they visit Babson, while the Hawks host Wheaton on Saturday.
