Worcester, Mass.--The Clark University women's tennis fell to the Engineers of MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts. The Engineers finished the day with the 9-0 sweep over the Cougars.
-Sophomore Libby Rickeman (Wayzata, Minn.) took 6-1 and 6-0 set victories over Clark sophomore Jillian Skulsky (Marshfield, Mass.) at No. 1 singles and first year Viktoriya Tabunshcyk (Ancaster, Canada) finished with 6-0 and 6-1 set victories over Clark junior Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) at No. 2 singles.
-MIT sophomore Marina Zhang (Garnet Valley, Penn.) and junior Lara Rakocevic (Portland, Ore.) shut out sophomores Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.) respectively, 6-0, at No. 3 singles.
-First year Lilly Meadows (Bradenton, Fla.) fell to sophomore Megan Guenther (Willowbrook, Ill.) at No. 5 singles with set scores of ,6-2 and 6-0 before sophomore Vanessa Kitova (Beverly, MAss.) finished singles play with a 6-0 victory over Clark junior Kathryn Benson (Huston, Mass.) at No. 6 singles.
-Senior Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) and Skulsky fought at No. 1 doubles with Rickeman and Tabunshcyk, but ultimately fell, 8-1.
-Gates and Garfield earned two points at No. 2 doubles, but Guenther and Zhang finished with the 8-2 final.
-MIT first year Ashley Teng (Tustin, Calif.) and Rakocevic finished doubles play with an 8-0 shutout victory over Tchantouridze and junior Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.).
-Clark travels to Smith College on Tuesday, April 9th for a NEWMAC match at 4:00 p.m.
-MIT returns to action at home on Tuesday, April 9th as the Engineers host Wheaton College for a 3:30 p.m. start.
