Tennis Falls In Last Match Of Semester

THE BASICS

-Score: UMass-Dartmouth 7, Clark University 1

-Records: Clark (2-6), UMass-Dartmouth (9-4)

-Location: Darmouth, Mass.

-The Lead: At the conclusion of a four hour match the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth came out with a 7-2 victory over the Clark University women's tennis team on Wednesday evening. Clark came close in many matchups on the day, but the Corsairs triumphed in the end. This concludes Clark's fall season, ending their semester at 2-6. UMass-Dartmouth moves to 9-4 on the year.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) and her partner Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) were great in the first doubles match to finish this afternoon at UMD Courts. No 3 duo Michelle Aftandilian and Jordan Martin fell 8-2 to the Cougars. 

-Clark's Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.) and Kathryn Benson (Hudson, Mass.) were defeated by Shiku and Reining in the No. 2 doubles match, 1-7. 

-Winning in a very close match, the Corsairs took No. 1 doubles. Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) and Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) fell 7-9 to Lahaie and Fastino. 

-Three singles matches went all the way to three sets. Clark's Dunnell and Tchantouridze unfortunately both fell in tight matches. No. 3 Tchantouridze was beat 4-6, 6-2, 2-6 while No. 6 Dunnell was defeated 7-5, 1-6, 2-6. Lastly, No. 2 Garfield was bested in an intense match 6-1, 2-6, 7-10.

-Clark's lone single match win was by Tarbox. She won the No. 4 match 7-5, 6-1. 

-The remaining two singles matches were completed in straight sets. Benson lost 0-6, 0-6 to Reining in the No. 5 matchup. No. 1 Gates could't get by her opponent and was downed 1-6, 3-6.

-The last match of UMass-Dartmouth's season is this Saturday, Oct. 13th as they travel to conference foe, Castleton.
