-The Lead: The Rhode Island College women's tennis team swept a non-conference match over Clark University in a Thursday afternoon matinee.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-RIC's double tandem of Emily Orticerio and Serena Bobola got the Anchormen off on the right foot with an 8-2 No. 3 doubles victory over Cougar Juniors Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) and Kathryn Benson (Hudson, Mass).

-Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) and Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.) fell to the RIC pair of Grace Zangari and Hailey Raskob. The No.2 doubles match ended at 8-3.

-In the No. 1 doubles match, Rhode Island native Anna Gates (North Scituate, RI) and her teammate Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, ME) were bested in a close match, 8-6. Katherine Braganca and Laurel Ten Eyck were the victors for RIC.

-In No. 6 singles play, Laurel Ten Eyck defeated Cougar Zahara Shidad (Lewiston, ME) in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2.

-Benson fell to Katherine Braganca 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.

-Hailey Raskob of RIC won 6-1, 6-1 over Dunnell in No. 5 singles.

-In No. 2 singles, Garfield fought hard in set two, but was defeated 6-2, 7-5 by Victoria Vittori.

-With 6-4, 6-1 set victories, Serena Bobola of RIC took down Clark's No. 3 single Tchantouridze.

-To finish the day, Gates was taken down 6-4, 6-1 by fellow No. 1 single, Grace Zangari.

UP NEXT

-Clark has a Worcester matchup as they host Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2nd.

-RIC resumes Little East play in a noon match against Bridgewater State on this Saturday, September 28th.
