Women's Tennis Climbs to 6-3 Victory in Season Opener

The Lead: The Clark University women's tennis team battled to a 6-3 victory over Simmons University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Senior Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, Conn.) and sophomore Jillian Skulsky (Marshfield, Mass.) started the day with a 9-7 victory for Clark at No. 1 doubles over juniors Nickie Nguyen (Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) and Marissa Johnson (Norwell, Mass.).

-Simmons took No. 2 doubles as Michelle Medici (South Portland, Maine) and Paola Rios (Miami, Fla.) defeated Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) and Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), 8-2.

-Junior Chloe Dunnell (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore Elizabeth Tchantouridze (Northfield, Vt.) took home a victory at No. 3 doubles as they battled to an 8-6 final over Sarah Mariski (Portland, Maine) and Megan McKeever (Stamford, Conn.).

-Tchantouridze secured a victory at No. 1 singles over Mariski. Tarbox fell to Rios at No. 2 singles but Clark took victories at No. 3 and 4 singles. Gates downed Johnson (6-0, 6-0) and junior Kathryn Benson (Huston, Mass.) outlasted Carrie St. Peter (Chester, N.H.).

-Skulsky fell at No. 5 singles to Nguyen but Garfield clinched a win for Clark at No. 6 singles (7-5, 6-4) as the Cougars took home the 6-3 victory.

-Clark hosts Bridgewater State on Monday, September 24th for a 4:00 p.m. match

-Simmons travels to UMass-Boston on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
