-The Lead: The Clark University women's tennis team fell to the Pride of Springfield College in their final New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the match the Cougars recognized two seniors for Senior Day: Isabelle Long (Bellevue, Wash.) and Bichtroan Nguyen (Worcester, Mass.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Pride was able to earn two points in doubles play, as the No. 1 squad of Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) and Cara Freadman (Richmond, Mass.) produced an 8-2 win and Rachel Litchfield (Northridge, Mass.) and Rachel Ahlmeyer (Morris Plains, N.J.) came through with an 8-3 victory at No. 3. Clark earned a victory at No. 2 doubles as sophomore Anna Gates (North Scituate, R.I.) and first year Elizabeth Garfield (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) defeated Addie Kendall (Lakeville, Mass.) and Malissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.), 8-4.
-Both Ahlmeyer and Parrish were dominant at the No. 6 and No. 5 spots in singles play, cruising to 6-0, 6-0 wins. Etter breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 and Kendall delivered a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4. Litchfield came through with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4 for the Pride, and Freadman and Long put forth a gritty effort at No. 1 which resulted in a 6-7(4), 6-2, 10-7 win for the Pride.
-Clark hosts Worcester State University for their season finale on Thursday, April 26th at 4:00 p.m.
-Springfield will hit the road to face Wellesley in the NEWMAC Championship Quarterfinals on Saturday, April 28th.
