Worcester, Mass.- On Saturday, the Clark University women's and men's swimming and diving teams competed in a dual meet against Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. The Cougars ultimately fell to the Judges with a final score on the women's side of 153-116, and on the men's side, 182-91.
The women's team got out to a hot start with the group of Allison Dubick (Cornwall, NY), Quinn Mitchell (West Hartford, Conn), Mira Siewert (Westbrook, Conn) and Amelia Muratori (Southbury, Conn) taking second place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. They finished with a time of 1:59.01, only a second off the pace. They collected four points for the Cougars.
In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Dubick picked up another second place finish with a time of 2:06.71. Teammate, Alison Falder (New Milford, Conn), finished in a close third.
Siewert picked up a first place finish in the 50 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 33.81. In her next race, the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Siewert finished on top of the standings again, touching the wall with a final time of 1:13.75. In the two races, Siewert grabbed 18 points for Clark.
In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Mitchell came in second with a final time of 1:05.24.
Muratori came in first out of a large field in the 50 Yard Freestyle. She finished with a final time of 25.78. Muratori stepped right back onto the winner's podium following her performance in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Muratori took first place with a time of 57.27.
Dubick came in third in the 100 Yard Backstroke. She touched the wall with a time of 1:11.09.
Anna Gilmartin (East Quogue, NY) collected a crucial nine points for the Cougars with her 1 meter dive and a final score of 184.35. She picked up another nine points with her second one meter dive, and a final score of 160.05.
Clark was well represented in the 50 Yard Butterfly. Quinn Mitchell took first place with a final time of 28.22, and was joined on the podium by second place finisher Ali Falder who finished with a time of 30.50. Not too far behind, Emma Bulman (Bridgewater, Mass) and Jacie Carson finished fourth and fifth respectively.
It was all Clark all the way in the 100 Yard IM. Elizabeth Cownie (Concord, Mass) took first place in the race with a final time of 1:08.91. She was followed by Ali Falder taking second place, and Siewert and Bulman finishing third and fourth respectively.
On the men's side, Dylan Schrama (Taunton, Mass), Julian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla), Sebastian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla), and Konstantin Drallios (Astoria, NY) took a second place finish in the 200 Yard Medley relay. They finished with a time of 1:47.35, and four points.
In the 1000 Yard Freestyle, Sebastian Ortega took first place, with teammate, Matt Finnegan (Rutland, Mass) finishing second. Ortega touched the wall at 11:12.74. Combined, the swimmers added thirteen points to the Cougars total.
Eric Corbert (Newton, Mass) and Dan Broderick (Tolland, Conn) took third and fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Corbert finished with a final time of 1:56.99.
Schrama finished third in the 50 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 30.96.
Julian Ortega finished first in the 100 Yard Butterfly. His closest competitor from Brandeis was a full second off the lead. Ortega took home nine points for Clark. Ortega came in second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, he finished right off the pace with a time of 1:05.88. Ortega also finished third in the 100 Yard IM touching the wall at 57.52.
Rowan Moody (Ellington, Conn) took first in the 1 meter dive with a final score of 184.35, and came back to score 288.90 in the meter dive.
In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Sebastian Ortega and Finnegan teamed up again to finish third and fourth respectively. Ortega finished with a final time of 5:33.55, and Finnegan with a final time of 5:34.84.
In the 50 Yard Butterfly, Dylan Schrama and Konstantin Drallios came in fourth and fifth. Schrama finished with a final time of 25.93, and Drallios finished with a time of 26.59.
Clark returns to the pool on Saturday, February 9th when they host the Cougar Invite.
