Worcester, Mass. - The Clark swim teams hosted their first home meet on Saturday against Babson. The Beavers defeated the Cougars with a score of 114 to 108 on the women's side, and the men with a score of 150-71.
Clark women came out with an early win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Allison Dubick (Cornwall, NY), Quinn Mitchell (West Hartford, Conn), Amelia Muratori (Southbury, Conn), and Mira Siewert (Westbrook, Conn) finished almost a full second faster than Babson with a final time of 1:57.50.
Alison Falder (New Milford, Conn) finished with a strong win and a crucial nine
points in the next event, the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Falder finished with a time of 11:47.23, Julia Ferrara from Babson finished second with a time of 12:28:33. Olivia Winters (Maplewood, NJ) also had a good race, finishing a close third and a time of 12:32.05
In the next race, the 200 Yard Freestyle, Quinn Mitchell came up with a big win for the Cougars with a time of 2:05.59. It was a tight race, but Mitchell held off Babson's Stella Hu who finished with a time of 2:05.64. Mitchell garnered another nine points for the Cougars.
In the next event, the 50 Yard Freestyle, Amelia Muratori won her second of the night, with a final time of 25.38, and nine points.
In the women's 200 Yard IM, Babson got their first win of the day behind a strong effort from Lizzy Demoine. Elizabeth Cownie (Concord, Mass), and Mira Siewert finished second and third respectively and combined for an additional seven points for the Cougars.
Freshman Anna Gilmartin (East Quogue, NY) finished second in the women's 1 mtr dive and the 3 mtr dive, and collected eight points.
In her third win of the day, Quinn Mitchell, took the 100 Yard Butterfly. She finished a full six seconds over her nearest competitor with a time of 1:05.03.
Amelia Muratori tried to get her third win in the 100 Yard Freestyle, but came up .46 seconds shy of first. Muratori took second in the race and added another four points to the Cougars score.
In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Ali Falder grabbed her second win on the night. She was the third Cougar to gain multiple wins. She touched the wall with a time of 5:46.11, with her nearest competitor finishing 6:00.49
To finish the day for the women, Siewert finished second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, and Clark's relay team of Cownie, Falder, Dubick and Emma Bulman (Bridgewater, Mass)finished second in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay.
On the men's side, Eric Cobert (Newton, Mass) definitively won the 1000 Yard Freestyle. Cobert finished with a time of 10:54.08. His nearest opponent came in with a time of 11:17.81. Cobert grabbed nine points for the Cougars. Cobert also finished second in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
Clark finished second in the 200 Yard Medley Relay behind an effort from Dylan Schrama (Taunton, Mass), Konstantin Drallios (Astoria, NY), Sebastian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla) and Julian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla).
Julian Ortega swam a great 200 Yard Freestyle, finishing second and falling just short of Ethan Yoo from Babson.Rowan Moody (Ellington, Conn.) grabbed eighteen points for the Cougars. Finishing with nine points in both the 1 mtr and 3 mtr dives.
Julian and Sebastian Ortega finished two and three in the 100 Yard Butterfly. The collected seven points.
To finish the day for the men, Drallios came in third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.13, and Clark's relay team of Cobert, Sebastian Ortega, Matt Finnegan (Rutland, Mass), and Brandon Shafer (Honeoye Falls, NY) finished 3rd in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
Clark returns to the pool at WPI on November 30th.
