Women's Swimming and Diving Compete in NEWMAC Championship First Session

Cambridge, Mass.--The Clark University women's swimming and diving team finished nineth overall in the first session of the 2017-2018 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at MIT on Thursday evening. After one session, MIT leads in the team standings with 64 points. Behind the Engineers is the U.S. Coast Guard Academy with 60 points, Wheaton College with 58, Springfield and WPI with 52, Wellesley with 44, Mount Holyoke with 40, Smith with 34 and Clark and Babson with 30.

Juniors Mira Siewert (Westbrook, Conn.), Amelia Muratori (Southbury, Conn.) and Quinn Mitchell (West Hartford, Conn.) along with senior Charlotte Gray (Sandy Hook, Conn.) opened up the session in the women's 800 Yard Freestyle Relay with a season best time of 8:24.96 in the "A" final. In the "B" final freshmen Elizabeth Cownie (Concord, Mass.) and Katy Flesher (Waukegan, Ill.) along with sophomore Emma Bulman (Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Jacie Carson (Eugene, Ore.) finished the relay in a sesason best 8:51.63.

The Cougars are back in action at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool at MIT today for the second day of the NEWMAC Championship. Today's events include the 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free, the three-meter dive and 400-medley relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals start at 6:00 p.m.
