Boston, Mass. – For the first time in her career, Clark University sophomore swimmer Quinn Mitchell (West Hartford, Conn.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's swimmer of the week it was announced on Monday by the league office.
Mitchell was spectacular in a pair of dual meets for the Scarlet and White last week. In Wednesday's showdown with crosstown rival WPI, Mitchell set a new school record in the 50-yard butterfly (27.02), breaking the old mark of 27.23 set by former Cougar standout, Gaby Jijon-Nemalceff in 2014. In addition to that record-setting victory, Mitchell also took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly against the Engineers.
Then, less than 72 hours later, Mitchell was at it again, this time in a dual meet victory over Brandeis University. She broke her own record in the 50-yard butterfly, posting a time of 26.80 to earn the event win. As she did against WPI, she followed that up with a victory in the 100-yard butterfly as well.
For the week, she posted four individual wins and won three more times as a member of Clark's relay teams.
Mitchell and the rest of her Clark teammates are back in action on Saturday when they take part in the Cougar Invitational at the Kneller Athletic Center.
