Worcester, Mass. – Western Connecticut's Lindsey LeConche (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had a goal and an assist and the visiting Colonials shutout host Clark, 2-0 on a rainy Granger Field on Thursday evening in non-league women's soccer action.
Western Connecticut improves to 5-4 overall with the win, while the Cougars, coming off their upset of nationally-ranked Wheaton College on Saturday, slips to 4-5.
LeConche put the visitors on the board in the 22nd minute when Jillian Duran (Uncasville, Conn.) set her up for the match's first tally.
Less than seven minutes later, LeConche served in a ball that was blasted home by Jennifer Duran (Uncasville, Conn.) for a commanding 2-0 Colonial lead.
Clark had a pair of solid scoring chances in each half that Western Connecticut was able to withstand. The first came in the first half when Erin Peete (Clinton, Mass.) had her shot from top of the box turned back and her rebound of that shot sail high.
Then late in the second stanza, Laura Hedden (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had her header off of a corner drift wide.
Both goalkeepers – Clark's Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) and Western Connecticut's Caitlin Avery (East Hampton, Conn.) – made four stops in their 90 minutes of action.
The Cougars return to NEWMAC play on Saturday with a match at Coast Guard, while the Colonials visit Plymouth State on Saturday as well.
