-The Lead: In a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon, the Clark University women's basketball team fell to The Pride of Springfield College in both team's regular season finale. Sophomore Hannah Favaloro (Blackstone, Mass.) finished with a game-leading 21 points to go along with 15 rebounds as she posted her 10th double-double of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The first quarter saw two ties and four lead changes with the Pride leading by as many as four with just a minute on the clock. Senior Maya Kerstetter (Northampton, Mass.) hit a last second three-pointer to bring Clark within one at the end of the first stanza. Springfield pulled ahead by seven at the start of the second quarter when senior Gracie Restituyo (Barrington,R.I.), junior Taylor Hill (Tolland, Conn.), and first year Bridget Reddington (Portland, Conn.) all added baskets before the five-minute mark (25-18). Springfield finished the quarter outscoring Clark 16-7 to take a 10-point lead into the halftime break.
-The Pride pulled ahead by 14 in the third quarter when Emily Jacques stepped behind the arc for three with 5:39 on the clock (47-33). A drive to the basket by junior Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) at the four minute mark extended The Pride's lead to 16, 51-35. First year Elyssa Jackson (Warren, N.J.) hit four free-throws to help the Cougars rally back to within seven with under a minute to play. Springfield edged Clark in scoring, 21-19 in the third to take a 54-46 lead into the final 10 minutes.
-Clark came back within six at the start of the fourth quarter with a pair of made free-throws from Favaloro (54-48). The Pride went on to outscore Clark 14-12 led by Goslin who put up seven points to lift Springfield to the final 68-58 victory.
-Favaloro led all scorers in the second half, putting up 15 points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Favaloro finished with a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds to lead Clark. Senior Ogechi Ezemma (Hope Valley, R.I.) posted a double-double of her own with 13 points and 13 rebounds on the day.
-Goslin led Springfield in scoring with 13 points and added five steals in the victory. Restituyo finished with a double-double of 11 points and a game-leading 17 rebounds.
-Springfield shot 40.4% from the field while Clark finished shooting 28.6%.
-The two teams were even in rebounding as they each grabbed 41 boards.
-Springfield forced 19 Clark turnovers and scored 24 points off of those. Clark forced The Pride to turn the ball over 18 times and converted them into nine points of their own.
-The game saw a total of three ties and four lead changes.
-Both teams are headed into the 2019 NEWMAC Women's Basketball tournament next week with seedings to be released by the conference later this evening.
