Ezemma Collects WACBA First-Team Honors

Worcester, Mass. – Clark University sophomore interior presence, Ogechi Ezemma has been named a Worcester Area Coaches Basketball Association (WACBA) First-Team All-Star it was announced earlier this week.

Ezemma was a key cog in the Cougars' revitalization this season as the Scarlet and White made the postseason tournament for the first time since 2012-13 and engineered an upset as the No. 7 seed of second-seeded Springfield to advance to the conference semifinals.

Individually, Ezemma was spectacular for large portions of the season, finishing second on the team in scoring at 12.7 points per game. She had 17 double figure scoring efforts, including six games with 20 points or more.

On the glass, she was as equally as effective, finishing fourth in the conference in rebounding (9.3) and second in the league in double-doubles (11). Overall, she had 12 games with ten rebounds or more, including a career-high 17 boards on two occasions (at Nichols, vs. Wheaton).

Ezemma proved to be an invaluable defender, finishing first in the league in blocks shots (1.6) and seventh in steals (2.1).

One of her best performances came against Suffolk where she racked up 21 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high six blocks against the Rams back in December. However, her most important effort came in the NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinals on the road at Springfield. Ezemma, scored ten of her game-high 19 points in the first quarter as the Scarlet and White registered the huge first round upset.

Off the court, Ezemma excelled academically and was just one of four women's basketball student-athletes in the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to appear on both the academic all-conference team and the all-conference squad. In addition, Ezemma was a finalist for the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America team.
