Boston, Mass. – Clark University interior forced Ogechi Ezemma (Hope Valley, R.I.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball defensive player of the week it was announced on Monday afternoon by Executive Director Patrick Summers.
The sophomore's award comes on the heels of a pair of Cougar victories in which she was a dominant figure. Ezemma averaged 11.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks as the Scarlet and White improved to 6-2.
In 30 minutes of action in a win over Coast Guard last Wednesday, Ezemma racked up 11 points, nine rebounds, three steals and one rejection. Then in a non-league win at Nichols on Saturday, she had quite possibly her best career contest, finishing with 12 points, a career-best 17 rebounds, four steals and four blocks.
In Clark's first eight games, Ezemma ranks fifth in the conference in rebounding (8.6), fourth in steals (2.8) and second in blocks (1.5) while averaging 11.6 points per game.
Ezemma and the Scarlet and White will return to the hardwood on Tuesday when they wrap up their first semester of action with a home contest against Suffolk University.
