-The Lead: Neely Eddleston (West Wareham, Mass.) pitched two completely games to lift the Lions past the Clark University softball team in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One: Emerson 1, Clark 0
-After six and a half scoreless innings the Lions put the only run of the game up in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Micaela Dix (White House Station, N.J.) led off with a double to left field and moved to third when first year Mallory Shofi (Ridgefield, Conn.) laid down a bunt. She crossed home on a wild pitch as Emerson walked off with the 1-0 victory in game one.
-Clark got runners on base in all seven innings and recorded six total hits in the setback. Junior Christina Kopacz (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) finished 2-for-4 in game one and senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) went 2-for-3.
-Senior Taylor Erickson (Natick, Mass.) pitched six complete innings for Clark, struck out three batters, allowed five hits and just one run scored. Erickson moves to 3-6 on the season.
-Eddleston improved to 10-7 with the victory in game one. She went seven innings, struck out four batters and allowed six hits.
Game Two: Emerson 4, Clark 1
-The Lions put their first two runs on the board in the bottom of the third innings. Dix led off with a single to shortstop and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Shofi. First year Morgan Mitchell (Riverton, Utah) and Dix later came home, unearned, on a fielding error by the Cougars for the 2-0 advantage.
-Emerson added another run in the bottom of the fifth when Shofi, who got on base with a single to second base, came home when freshman Lexi Semanchik (Flemington, N.J.) was hit by a pitch (3-0).
-With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, sophomore JC Urella (North Grafton, Mass.) homered to bring the Cougars within two, 3-1.
-The Lions used one more unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 4-1 final victory.
-Barksdale finished game two 2-for-3 with a double for the Cougars while first year Jessica Martin (Winthrop, Mass.) recorded a double of her own in the setback.
-Junior Sarah Woods (Littleton, Mass.) falls to 2-10 on the season as she pitched five innings and struck out five batters on the mound for Clark.
-Eddleston pitched seven more innings for Emerson in game two and improved to 11-7 with the victory. She struck out four batters, allowed five hits, and one earned run.
-Clark is back in action on Tuesday, April 23rd when they travel to Fitchburg State for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
-Emerson travels to Plymouth State on Wednesday, April 24th for two games starting at 3:30 p.m.
