How It Happened In Game 1:
Wheaton starter Danielle Cimino was dominant in the circle for the Lyons, yielding just two hits while striking out nine batters in her fifth win of the season. She didn't give up her first hit until there was one out in the fifth – a single by Sami West (Gonic, N.H.).
By that time, Wheaton had all the runs they needed with a single run in the second on a Morgan Walsh RBI hit to center and then Mary DeMoura led off the third with a triple and then came around to score on an Alexis Havrilla bunt single.
The Cougars only other hit came off of the bat of Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) in the top of the sixth.
West took the lost despite pitching effectively for Clark, going six innings, scattering nine hits with three strikeouts.
For Wheaton every member of the lineup had one hit.
How It Happened In Game 2:
The Cougars took advantage of back-to-back doubles from Taylor Erickson (Natick, Mass.) and West that plated three runs to open the game, before fielder's choice by Kaitlyn DeBlois (Turner, Maine) scored West. Clark tacked on one more run in the second inning with a single from Jocie Orangio (Maynard, Mass.) that spurred a throwing error by Wheaton, which allowed Leah Bodin (Andover, Vt.) to score.
Wheaton cut into the Clark lead when Caroline Fairbanks earned a run back in the bottom half of the second with her second home run of the season and 28th of her career. Chloe Woodward knocked in the final two runs of the inning with a single to right.
The Lyons then took advantage of three Cougar errors in the bottom of the third to plate six runs on just four hits. With two outs, Rebecca Seifert got the rally started with a single to left center that knocked in Fairbanks. Walsh followed with a double that plated Seifert.
After a Clark pitching change, the Lyons loaded the bases with back-to-back walks to Shelbi Wilson and Havrilla. A single to center from Woodward brought in two more Wheaton runs, before a single to right from DeMoura scored Havrilla. Woodward would also come around to score on the play courtesy of another Cougar error.
Clark countered in the top of the fourth with two runs of its own, making it a 9-7 contest. Erickson smacked a double that scored Christina Kopacz (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) and then Brenna Foley (Charlton, Mass.) pushed Mackey home with a single.
Wheaton added two more runs in the fifth, before scoring three more in the sixth to conclude its scoring.
Clark will be back in action on Sunday when they visit Wellesley College for another conference doubleheader with the Blue beginning at 2:00 p.m.
