Entering his elevnth season at the helm of the rising men’s tennis program in 2017, Mickey Cahoon has methodically built the Clark University men’s tennis brand into one of the upper-echelon teams in the New England Women’s And Men’s Athletic Conference.

In 2012 and 2013 Cahoon led the program to 27 victories, including 16 in 2013 – the third-most in a single season in school history.

Along the way he has developed a slew of all-conference performers and brought the program to heights it had never seen in the NEWMAC era.

In the nine years prior to Cahoon’s arrival, the program had just one all-conference selection. In the past two seasons alone, the program has had ten selections including first-team honorees Dan Stein (2013) and Diego Angel (2012).

Angel in particular, flourished under Cahoon’s tutelage, earning both the 2010 league rookie of the year and 2012 player of the year.

During the 2012 campaign, the Cougars won nine straight matches, including a victory over Division I Holy Cross as they advanced to the program’s first-ever NEWMAC Tournament Final. Cahoon himself took home league coach of the year honors and six individuals – Angel, Stein, Josh Burger and Joel Simonson, Phillip Porter and Dan Hall - all collected all-conference accolades.

Cahoon arrived at Clark following a highly-successful tenure at the high school level. He spent three seasons as head coach at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Mass., where he led NDA to a 50-17 overall record and a pair of consecutive trips to the Division II South Sectional Tournament, including a championship appearance in 2006.

He also assisted 10-time state champion head coach Tom Turco at Barnstable High School, helping lead the Red Raiders to the 2003 MIAA Division I Championship.

In addition to his men's tennis coaching responsibilities, Cahoon also serves as the head coach of the women's volleyball program and the department's compliance coordinator.

He spent six years directing the tennis team at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School (1998-2004) en route to being named the Cape Cod Times Boy’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2003.

Cahoon has also served as a resident tennis professional at the Weston Racquet Club.

A 2001 graduate of Bridgewater State College, Cahoon also has a master’s degree in Counseling from Boston University.

He resides in South Boston with his wife, Jennifer and their son Jett.
