Orlando, Fla.--Wabash College won a close match this afternoon over the Clark Cougars, 5-4 overall. Clark taking two out of three doubles matches wasn't enough to pull out a victory. Now with a record of 4-4, the Cougars are eager to get back on the winning side down in Florida.
-Nicholas Mathieu (Topsham, ME) was defeated in straight sets 1-6 and 2-6. The opponent, Patrick McAuley, won the No.1 singles match which ended up being one of four singles victories for Wabash.
-No. 2 singles went to Jordan Greenwell. Clark's Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, CT) fell in the two set match, 2-6 and 0-6.
-In a matchup that was won due to retirement by the opponent, Duncan Roy came out with the victory for Wabash. Sophomore Cougar Christian Ruebens (Chesire, CT) lost 5-4, 0-WR.
-Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, CT) fought his way through a three set match and came up just short. He fell to Nieshaal Thambipillay in the No. 4 singles match, 6-4, 3-6, 6-10.
-No. 5 single Ian Levy (Needham, MA) also had a three set match, but this one went to the Cougars. The scores were 3-6, 6-4, 10-7, showing a valiant effort by Levy's opponent Lukas Senn.
-Evan Frank of Wabash lost in the No. 6 singles match. First-year Clarkie, Nathan Kapiloff won due to retirement, 6-4, 6-6, WR-0.
-No. 1 doubles was the only doubles match that Wabash won. McAuley and Greenwell defeated Clark's Mathieu and Ruebens, 8-4.
-Clark is currently in a match vs. Coe College which started at 6:00PM. A follow up on that will be coming soon. Tomorow, Clark has another two match day.
-Wabash also has two matches tomorrow. It begins with an 8:00AM matchup with Penn State Berks, followed by a 6:30 match against Adrian College.
