HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Greyhounds were the leaders after the doubles, taking two of three matches. Luke Whitehouse and Jacob Lawrence were defeated by Senior Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) and Junior Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) in No. 3 doubles to start of the day, 8-4. The next two matches were both won 8-6 by Assumption College. At No. 1 doubles, Jose Della-Valle (Miami, Fla.) and Nicholas Mathieu (Tompsham, Maine) fell to even up the overall score. Lastly, Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Max Schweitzer (West Hartford, Conn.) were defeated to give Assumption the early 2-1 lead.
-Singles were a different story however, a story that greatly favored the Cougars. Winning five of six matches propelled Clark to gaining their fourth win of the season. To start off, Han defeated Jameson Keppeler in straight sets, both scored at 6-3. Della-Valle's efforts at No. 1 singles created a 6-4,6-3 victory to shift the momentum towards Clark. In dramatic fashion, the overall score went back to even at 3-3 after Assumption's Reb Mariano bested Clark's Mathieu 5-7,6-3,11-9. Coach Cahoon's team showed great competiveness and took the next three matches to seal a victory. Ian Levy (Needham, Mass.) showed off his racket skills by winning No. 5 singles 6-3,7-5 over Jacob Lawrence. First-year student Nathan Kapiloff won a tight No. 6 singles match by set scores of 7-6,7-6. To cap off a great ending to the day, Clark's Schweitzer squeezed past Brandon Sze 3-6,7-5, 10-8.
-Clark's last Fall match of the year takes place at Holy Cross (Worcester, MA) this coming Friday 105 at 3:00PM.
-Assumption resumes play in March, traveling to St. Michael's in Vermont.
