HOW IT HAPPENED

-In doubles play, the top team of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) eased their way to an 8-0 win, only to have the Cougars win the other two matches, including an important 9-8(5) win at the No. 2 spot from Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.).
