-The Lead: The Clark University men's tennis team earned their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory of the season on Friday afternoon over the Lions of Emerson College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Clark swept doubles to take an early 3-0 lead. Jose Dalla-Valle (Miami, Fla.) and Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) earned an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Jack Han (Bakerfield, Calif.) and Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, Fla.) claimed an 8-1 win a No. 2 doubles before Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) and Alex Hattenbach (Wilton, Conn.) clinched the sweep with an 8-0 shutout at No. 3 doubles.
-Malicky started at No. 5 singles with a two 6-0 shutout sets but Emerson earned their first point when Thomas McCorkle (Mathews, N.C.) downed Han at No. 3 singles, (6-2, 6-4).
-Hattenbach extended Clark's lead to 5-1 with a solid win at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-0).
-Dalla Valle came out on top at No. 1 singles in three sets with Dan Okin (Amagansett, N.Y.) before Ruebens claimed Clark's last victory of the day at No. 2 singles over Brock Higley (Bedford, N.H.) .
-Shawn Lee took the last victory of the day for Coast Guard at No. 6 singles as he went three sets with Josh Podolsky (Sudbury, Mass.) (6-4, 5-7, 10-6).
-Clark travels to Regis College on Monday, April 23rd for a match at 4:30 p.m.
-Emerson hosts Babson in a NEWMAC match, tomorrow April 21st at 10:30 a.m.
