-The Lead: The Clark University men's tennis team fell to the Lyons of Wheaton College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening. The win was the third NEWMAC victory for the Lyons as they swept the Cougars in doubles action and took four out of six singles matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wheaton got things started with an 8-0 win from Jorge Aguirre Martinez (Madrid, Spain) and Ned Roosevelt (New York, N.Y.) in the No. 2 position, which was followed by 8-6 wins in the No. 3 and No. 1 spots.
-Jose Dalla-Valle (Miami, Fla.) earned Clark's first win at No. 1 singles over Aguirre Martinez in three hard-fought sets (1-6, 7-5, 10-2).
-Wheaton's winning continued with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jack Han (Bakersfield, Calif.) from Roosevelt in the No. 4 singles position.
-Jeremiah Ryser (Cross River, N.Y.) sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over freshman Christian Ruebens (Cheshire, Conn.) at No. 2 singles.
-Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, Mass.) took a victory for Clark at No. 6 singles over Diego Garcia Anton (Alicante, Spain), 7-6 and 6-0.
-Wheaton rounded out its wins with a 6-4, 7-5 win from Zach Strempel (Longmeadow, Mass.) (No. 5) and a 7-5, 5-7, 12-10 battle from Javier Esteban de Celis (Santa Crus de la Sierra) (No. 2).
-Clark hosts Emerson for Senior Day on Friday, April 20th a 4:00 p.m. in NEWMAC action.
-Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, April 21 at home against the Coast Guard Academy for a 2 p.m. contest.
