Cambridge, Mass.--The Clark University men's swimming and diving team placed 5th out of 7 in the first session of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) 2017-2018 Championship on Thursday evening at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. The MIT men's swimming and diving team won both the 800-free relay and the 1-meter dive to jump out in front in the team standings with 125 points. Behind MIT in the standings is Springfield with 96 points, Coast Guard with 90, WPI with 83, Clark with 54, Babson with 50 and Wheaton with 40.
In the "A" Final of the 800 Freestyle Relay Clark freshmen Eric Cobert (Newton, Mass.), Matt Finnegan (Rutland, Mass.), Will Russell (Cumberland, Maine) and Nick Sakoff (New York, N.Y.) finished in a time of 7:43.76, ahead of Wheaton College.
Senior Steven Castiglione (North Haven, Conn.) finished in the top 10 for the men's 1 meter dive with a score of 350.80.
The Cougars are back in action at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool at MIT today for the second day of the NEWMAC Championship. Today's events include the 200-free relay, 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and the 400-medley relay. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. and finals start at 6:00 p.m.
