Cougars In Sixth After First Session Of Championships

Worcester, Mass. – Highlighted by a podium finish from both their 800-yard freestyle relay squad and Steven Castiglione (North Haven, Conn.), the Clark University men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the first session of action at the 2017 NEWMAC Championships in sixth place.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Sebastian Ortega (West Palm Beach, Fla.), Johan Nel (Wayne, Maine), Bill Holloman (Avon, Conn.) and Brandon Shafer (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) turned in a seventh place showing in a time of 7:46.82.

On the three-meter diving board, Castiglione turned in a tenth place showing, posting a score of 314.10. Fellow Cougar Marco Moneti (Bloomington, Minn.) participated in the preliminaries, just missing out on the finals with a score of 267.75.

MIT had the three top finishers on the three-meter, including individual champion Samuel Solomon, who posted an NCAA "A" Cut standard with a score of 541.90.

The men will contest the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, and 400-yard medley relay tomorrow beginning with the trials at 10 a.m. Finals are set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
