Men's Soccer Tops Castleton University 2-1 in Home Opener

- The Lead: The Clark Universtiy Men's Soccer team topped Castleton University in their home opener at Granger Field. The Cougars had goals from Charlie Lane (Southborough, Mass) and Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.). 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- In the 17th minute the Spartans netted a header goal by freshman midfielder Jacob Henderson (Rutland, Vt.) off a corner from senior midfielder Colby Gay (Milton, Vt.).

-In the 30th minute the Cougars scored their first goal when Alex Nicholson (Barrington, RI) crossed the ball to Charlie Lane (Southborough, Mass).

-In the 14th minute of the second half Clark netted their second goal when Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) burried a rebound after a save from Castleton's goalie, Alex Fernald (Phippsburg, Me).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Cougars outshot the Spartans by a margin of 29-16 including a 15-5 advantage in the second half. Clark also held a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Vincent finished with 12 saves to record his first win of the season. Senior Sean Munroe and Senior Charlie Lane both had six shots.

-The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday, September 4th at home versus Brandeis at 7 PM and Castleton will travel to Rensselear on Saturday September 7th at 4 PM.
