Westwood, Mass.--The Clark University Men's Soccer team swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards following their 2-0 victory over conference opponent Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Saturday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) earned Defensive Athlete of the Week recognition while sophomore Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) was named the Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Maguire was solid between the pipes over the weekend as the Cougars soared to an impressive 2-0 victory over WPI, handing the Engineers their first conference loss of the season. Maguire made nine pivotal saves while earning the shutout, his fourth on the season.
Monroe was a vital piece of the Cougars 2-0 victory over cross-town foe, WPI on Saturday in their lone game of the week. The sophomore netted both goals in the victory which helped secure Clark as the No. 4 seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship.
The Cougars (No. 4) host the No. 5 seed, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), on Wednesday Novemver, 1st in NEWMAC Quarterfinal action at 7:00 p.m. at the Granger Soccer Complex.
