Bears Climb to Victory over Cougars

The Lead: The Cougars of Clark University were downed by the Bears of the Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action by a final score. Leading 1-0 at the half, the Bears were able to add two more goals in the early part of the second half to establish and keep a commanding 3-0 lead until the final horn. Coast Guard Academy junior, Alex Hall (Merritt Island, Fla) tallied two goals, while senior, Luke Telang (Providence, RI) added one. Clark goalkeeper, Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass) made 4 saves in net.



-The first half was largely back and forth until the 33rd minute when Hall took a feed from junior, Quintin Parsons (Niantic, Conn) and buried a shot past the arms of Maguire to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

-Coming out of halftime, Hall found the back of the net again on a feed from junior, Noah Harper (Deland, Fla) to give Coast Guard the 2-0 lead in the 54th minute.

-Seven minutes later, Telang notched the Bear's third and final goal on a shot that caromed off the right post and fell in and over the goal line. Assisting on the goal was senior, Ryan Dandan (Trophy Club, Texas.) for the 3-0 final victory.



-The Bears outshot the Cougars, 14 to nine .

-The Cougars held a slight advantage in corner kicks, five to three.

-Coast Guard goalkeeper, senior, Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, Conn) picked up the win to improve his record to 5-1, while Clark goalkeeper, senior, Maguire took the loss and drops to 3-4 overall.



-Clark will travel to Fitchburg State University on Wednesday, October 11th for a non-league matchup. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.

-Coast Guard Academy will take to the field again on Tuesday, October 10th when they host a non-league matchup against Williams College. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 PM.
