Worcester, Mass. The Clark University men's soccer team fell to Dean College 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in their season home opener and non-league action. Dean College scored the loan goal in the 14th minute and Dean's rookie Nathan Silveira (East Providence, R.I.) kept the Cougars off the scoreboard.
Freshman Felipe Campos (Brockton, Mass.) scored his third goal in his last two games to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Silveira made six saves en route to his second shutout of the season including a point black save in the final minutes of the game.
Clark had their best scoring chance of the day in the 89th minute when freshman Patrick Clark (Plainville, Mass.) saw his shot ring off the crossbar at the 88:24 mark. The Cougars held a 17-11 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Senior Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) made three saves in his first loss of the season.
The Cougars lost for the first time in four games and now stand at 1-1-2. Dean remains unbeaten at 3-0.
Clark is back in action when they travel to Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, September 13 for a 4 p.m. start. Dean returns to action after a week off when they host Saint Joseph (Vermont) at 2:00 p.m next Sunday.
