Newton, Mass. – Freshman Sean Munroe (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded the first two goals of his collegiate career and the Clark University men's soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 win over Mount Ida on Saturday afternoon.
Score: Clark University 3, Mount Ida 0
Records: Clark University 3-0, Mount Ida 2-2
Location: Alumni Field, Newton, Mass.
How It Happened:
The Cougars wasted little time getting on the board when Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) found Munroe with a through ball that the freshman deposited into the back of the net just 7:30 into the contest.
Clark doubled that advantage when TJ Zirkman (Freehold, N.J.) converted a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
Now ahead 2-0 in the early minutes of the second half Munroe scored again, this time on a long shot from about 40 yards out.
Lost in the offensive output for the Cougars was the combined shutout for Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) and Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Conn.). Maguire went the first 64 minutes and made three saves, while Richardson relieved him and made three stops in his 24 minutes of action.
That goalkeeping duo has been spectacular this season having gone all 270 minutes so far without allowing a goal.
"Hard fought win today," said Clark head coach Matt O'Toole. "We went deep into our roster and it took everyone's contributions to get the victory."
The Cougars waste little time in returning to action. They hit the road for a 3:30 p.m. start on Sunday at Western New England.
