Boston, Mass. – Visiting Clark University and host Emerson College played to a scoreless tie in New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon on the Field at Rotch Playground.
The result leaves the Cougars at 6-9-2 overall and 1-3-2 in league action with one conference contest remaining. In order to advance to postseason play, Clark will need to defeat Wheaton next Saturday in Norton and have Springfield lose at Coast Guard and MIT to lose to WPI.
Each team had excellent scoring chances but neither could cash in on their opportunities.
Early in the second half Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) sent a shot that banged off of the post.
Ten minutes later, Adam Halliday hit the post for Emerson and two minutes after that, Evan Eubanks rang the post as well.
In the second extra session, the Lions had another great chance to earn their first conference win but Patrick Lowndes saw his header attempt from inside the box clang off the crossbar.
Emerson held a 19-14 edge in shots and a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Conn.) made six saves to record his first career shutout, while his counterpart, Carter Bowers had three saves of his own.
Clark will be back in action on Wednesday with a non-league contest against Framingham State. First touch is slated for 6:00 p.m.
