Nor'Easters Storm By Cougars, 6-2

Worcester, Mass. – Visiting University of New England erupted for six goals including scoring three unanswered twice and the Nor'Easters held off a late charging Clark University squad to earn a 6-2 decision in non-league men's soccer action on a rainy Granger Soccer Turf on Wednesday evening.

UNE (5-3-1) scored three straight goals in the game's first 30 minutes beginning with Finn Drucker flicking a header past Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.) at 14:46.

A little more than six minutes later Darius Ntacyo split a pair of defenders and fired a low shot that screamed past Maguire, giving the visitors a 2-0 edge.

The Nor'Easters wasted little time tacking on their third goal as Sean Goodrich fired a shot from the left side that went through Maguire's hands for their first three-goal advantage at 23:56.

Things changed drastically in the second half as the Cougars became the aggressor and it eventually paid off when Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.) teamed up with Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) who blasted home his first goal of the season in the 58th minute.

Clark closed the gap a few minutes later when a rolling ball came to the foot of Alberto Polo-Herrera (Arlington, Va.) who launched a blast from inside the box, giving him his first collegiate goal and made the score, 3-2.

Less than two minutes later UNE created some breathing room when Goodrich setup Dexter Doucet at 65:55.

The Nor'Easters then put the contest away with two more goals in a five minute span as Tyler Garnick found the back of the net and Goodrich recorded another assist – this time on a Scott Mitchell marker at 78:19.

Amazingly, the Scarlet and White held a 23-18 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Each team used two goalkeepers with UNE getting four saves apiece from starter Aidan McParland and his replacement Nate Diffin.

Maguire played the first 45 minutes for Clark and was relieved by Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Conn.).

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday with conference contests. The Nor'Easters will visit Western New England for a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown, while Clark entertains New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Springfield College.
