Worcester, Mass.—The Clark University men's lacrosse team along with head coach, Jeff Cohen is pleased to announce senior Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) as the 2019 team captain. King also served as a 2018 tri-captain as a junior.
King earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) First Team All-Conference recognition at the conclusion of the 2018 season. He led Clark and finished third in the NEWMAC in total goals scored with 43. King was also named to the 2018 NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team in 2018 and was named Offensive Player of the Week by the conference in week one of the season.
"Brandon is returning as captain for our 2018-19 season. He has earned the respect of his peers and will be a focal point of the offense this year. On and off the field he has shown great leadership, work ethic, and maturity. I've never had more confidence in a captain to lead our team and he has the support from an experienced senior class. I believe the combination will allow us to get the most out of the 2019 team," said Cohen.
When asked what it means to be named captain here is what King had to say:
"Being named captain is an accomplishment I have always dreamed of from when I first started playing organized lacrosse. I am lucky enough to be leading a team that I view as a family. Especially my fellow seniors; we have grown immensely over these last four years together and have been part of the two most successful seasons Clark Lacrosse has ever had".
"I couldn't ask for a better group of guys to have my back and we all act as the leaders of this team."
When asked what he looks forward to the most this season and how he plans to lead the Cougars in 2019, he continued:
"For this upcoming season, the focus we need to work on is toughness. We are a skilled team that has proven ourselves over the last few seasons as NEWMAC contenders, which brings with it a group of talented out-of-conference teams that want a piece of us. Our best shot at winning this season is by outworking our opponents with both physical and mental toughness to allow for our talent to flourish up and down the field. I'm lucky to lead a group with so much potential this season, and it will take a whole lot of work and leading by example in the coming months to ensure we reach our goals come May. I have faith in our team and couldn't ask for a better position to be in."
The Clark men's lacrosse team kicks off the 2019 season at Salve Regina on Saturday, February 16th at 1:00 p.m. Their home opener is set for Saturday, February 23rd with Western New England at 4:00 p.m. at Granger Field.
