-The Lead: The Clark University men's lacrosse team ran to victory over the Panthers of Plymouth State University in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. Clark scored 11 goals on 16 shots on goal led by a three goal day for junior Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.).
HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Panthers opened up scoring with the first goal when sophomore Griffin Jacobson (Windham, Maine) scored for the early 1-0 lead at the 10:23 mark.
-The Cougars combined for three unanswered goals to close out the first quarter with a 3-1 lead. King tied the game at a goal apiece when he put one in with 8:48 on the clock and then put the Cougars ahead when he tallied another on an assist from junior Tyler Sullivan (Brunswick, Maine) just 40 seconds later. Freshman Conor Khung (Wrentham, Mass.) found Pat Campbell (Duxbury, Mass.) who snuck one behind Panther goalkeeper, Zel Kerkel (Loudon, N.H.), for the 3-1 advantage.
-Sophomore Andrew Hollerbach (West Hartford, Conn.) extended the Cougar's run at the start of the second when junior Jack Pierce (Westborough, Mass.) fed him the ball for the 4-1 lead at the 14:40 mark.
-The Panthers ended the run with a goal from Casey Elkins (Stow, Mass.) that was assisted by first year Connor Delea (Manchester, N.H.) with 12:09 on the clock.
-The Panthers scored back-to-back goals to open the third quarter and trailed by just one with 9:07 on the clock (5-4).
-The Cougars ended the visitor's scoring there and went on to score four more goals in the third and two more in the fourth. It was a full team effort from the Cougars as Pierce, Bobby Philbin (Ridgefield, Conn.), King, Hollerbach, Will Mandracchia and Jack Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) combined for the 6-0 run and the final 11-4 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-King led the Cougars with three goals while Hollerbach added two. Pierce and Mandracchia each added two points from a goal and an assist.
-Philbin won an impressive eight of ten face-offs for the Cougars.
-Jacobson led the Panthers with three goals while Elkins added a goal and an assist.
-Nathan Maselek (Marblehead, Mass.) earned the victory in net for Clark making 16 saves. He improves to 5-4 this season.
-Kerkel made five saves in the setback and falls to 3-4 this season.
-Clark travels to Emerson College on Saturday, April 7th for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at 1:00 p.m.
-The Panthers travel to Salem State University on Friday, April 6th for a conference game at 7:00 p.m.
