Bears Climb to Victory Over Men's Lacrosse

-The Lead: The Clark University men's lacrosse team fell to the Bears of Coast Guard Academy in their first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game of the season. Sophomore Chris Rasco (Huntington, N.Y.) led the Cougars with three goals.


-The Bears took the first lead of the game when junior Ian Logan (Virginia Beach, Va.) tallied a goal with 10:01 on the clock in the first quarter (1-0). Clark evened the score on a goal from Rasco and with just 15 seconds on the clock senior Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) found Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) who fired one in for the 2-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

-Coast Guard quickly tied the score again with an early goal in the second from junior Benner Geurtsen (Rodman, N.Y.) (2-2). The Cougars were able to pull away with two unanswered goals before the halftime break. Rasco tallied his second goal of the game with 3:55 on the clock on another assist from Mandracchia. With just 22 seconds on the clock junior Jack Pierce (Westborough, Mass.) put one behind Coast Guard goaltender, Trey Johnson (Millersville, Md.), for the 4-2 lead heading into the break.

-Coast Guard went on a 5-0 run in the third quarter as Anthony Wyler (Fulton, Md.) tallied two goals and Jack Pope (San Diego, Calif.), Will Iorio (Weaverville, N.C.) and Geurtsen added three more for the 7-4 lead heading into the final stanza.

-Two more goals two start the fourth quarter extended the Bear's run to 7-0. Riley McNulty (Annapolis, Md.) and Wyler posted goals at the 9:58 and 4:31 marks to extend the host's lead to 9-4. Clark ended their run with a goal from junior Sam Wogan (Freeport, Maine) with 4:02 to play, but Coast Guard held off the Cougars and took the final 9-5 victory.


-Rasco led the Cougars with two goals on the day. Junior goalkeeper Nathan Maselek (Marblehead, Mass.) posted 12 saves in the setback and falls to 4-4 on the season. Bobby Philbin (Ridgefield, Conn.) was 9-for-16 in face-offs.

-Wyler led the Bears with three goals in the victory. McNulty posted three points from a goal and two assists and Geursten tallied two goals. Johnson earned the win in net with seven saves and improves to 6-2 on the season.


-Clark hosts Plymouth State on Wednesday, April 4th at 6:00 p.m. in non-conference action.

-Coast Guard is back in NEWMAC action when the travel to MIT on the same day for a 7:00 p.m. game.
