Cougars Roar to Victory Over Wildcats

-The Lead: The Clark University men's lacrosse team earned a 19-11 victory over the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Saturday afternoon. Senior Will Mandracchia (Melrose, Mass.) and junior Brandon King (Eastham, Mass.) led the way with a game high five goals each in the victory of Clark.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Clark started the game strong with four unanswered goals in the first quarter of play. Freshman Mark DellaTorre (Bethany, Conn.) got the ball rolling with his second career goal for the 1-0 lead with 9:56 on the clock. Mandracchia posted two first quarter goals at the 6:35 mark and 1:54 mark. King tallied his first goal of the game with 5:30 to play in the stanza.

-The Cougars continued their hot streak with another four goals from Mandracchia, King (two), and Quincy Milton III, for the 8-0 lead.

-Max Stone (Burlington, Conn.) opened up scoring for the Wildcats with a tally at the 6:17 mark (8-1).

-JWU added another two goals at the beginning of the third quarter when Eric Russo (West Grove, Penn.) and Ben Farrell (Baltimore, Md.) both posted unassisted goals and the Wildcats trailed 9-3 with 13:41 on the clock.

-JWU outscored Clark 6-4 in the third period and cut their deficit to 13-7 heading into the final stanza.

-Clark added six more goals in the final stanza including two from sophomore Chris Rasco (Huntington, N.Y.) to finish out the game and give the Cougars the ultimate 19-11 victory heading back to Worcester, Mass.

INSIDE THE NUMNERS

-Clark outshot JWU 56-39 and won 20-of-31 face-offs in the victory. Sophomore Bobby Philbin (Ridgefield, Conn.) was 14-for-19 in face-offs.

-Mandrachhia and King led the way with five goals each for Clark while Rasco added three.

-Farrell led JWU with four goals and Stone added three in the setback.

-Sarting goalkeeper, junior Nathan Maselek (Marblehead, Mass.) made 11 saves in the win.

-Bradley Morris (Bayport, N.Y.) made 16 saves for JWU in the setback.
