Boston, Mass. – Clark University goalkeeper Kevin Ranta (Beverly, Mass.) has been named New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse defensive player of the week it was announced on Monday by the league office.
Ranta was fantastic in net in the Cougars' first three contests, racking up 49 saves and 13 groundballs.
In the season-opening win over Wentworth, Ranta turned back a career-high 23 shots as Clark prevailed, 10-7.
Then in a 10-9 win over DeSales, he allowed just one goal in the final 14+ minutes as the Scarlet and White roared back for the dramatic victory. In the final game of the three game stretch - a 12-7 win over Misericordia - he stopped 14 shots as the Cougars opened the season with three straight wins for the first time in program history.
Ranta and his Cougar teammates return to the field on Saturday with their home opener against Skidmore College. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
