AMCATS Push Past Cougars in Overtime, 106-102

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Anna Maria men's basketball team defeated Clark University this afternoon in overtime action, 106-102, during non-conference action in the Fuller Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Clark went into the half up 53-42 while shooting 50% from the floor. Sophomore Tyler Davern (Webster, Mass.) led the team in points with 13 points and 5 rebounds going into the locker room.

-Bobby Perette (Marshfield, Mass.) led the AMCATS with 13 points of his own before the second half.

-The second half was dominated by junior Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass.) down low as he finished the half with 24 points 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Freshmen Kennedy Minix-Rogers (Smyrna, Georgia) had his best game of his young career as he was 4-5 from the floor and hit 1-2 three pointers, to finish with 11 points in the half. Anna Maria was able to shoot 60% from the floor and outscored Clark 50 to 39 in the 2nd to tie the game up at 92 all.

-In overtime Angel Perez (Miami, Fla.) went 2-2 from downtown to give the AMCATS their first lead since the opening seconds of the contest. Anna Maria sealed the deal with two free-throws from Perette to take the 106-102 final victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The cougars had two 20-point scorers today in Davern with 25 points, along with sophomore Charles Stevens (Bronx, N.Y.) with 20 off of the bench. Sophomore Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla.) and junior Brendan Kittredge (Clinton, Mass.) each added 13 points while sophomore Anthony Grzembski (Webster, Mass.) and first year Joel Arteaga (Wyncote, Penn.) both finished with 11 points to round out double-digit scoring for the Cougars.

-The AMCATS finished with six players in double digits, led by Rapoza who finished with 30 points. Perette, Perez, and Minix-Rogers all finished with 15 points in the game.

-Anna Maria shot 55.9% from the field while Clark shot 50.6%. Both teams finished shooting an even 40% from behind the arc. The Cougars edged the AMCATS at the free throw line shooting 66.7% percent to their 64.3%

-Anna Maria outrebounded Clark, 46-31

-Clark forced Anna Maria to turn the ball over 20 times and scored 18 points off of those errors. The AMCATS forced 13 Clark turnovers and converted them into 21 points of their own.

-Clark travels to Connecticut College next Tuesday, November 27th for a non-conference contest at 7:00 p.m.

-Anna Maria will be back on the hardwood this Wednesday November 28th at home as they gear up to face Amherst.
