Springfield Charges to NEWMAC Victory Over Men's Basketball

-The Lead: The Clark University men's basketball team fell to NEWMAC opponent Springfield College on the road on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Trey Witter (Unionville, Conn.) came off the bench to lead The Pride with 19 points while his classmate Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Junior Luca McCormick (Fort Lauderdale, Mass.) led the Cougars with 10 points in the setback.


First Half

-The Pride connected on their first three shots of the game to jump out to a 7-3 lead at the 18:08 mark after junior Cam Earle (South Hadley, Mass.) cashed in on a trifecta. 

-The Cougars would knot the contest at 15 on a three-pointer by McCormick with 13:57 on the clock, only to have another triple from the right wing by Earle at the 11:27 mark give Springfield a 25-18 cushion. 

-Clark would climb within 33-27 on a bucket inside by Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla.) with 4:30 remaining, the Pride's offense caught fire and closed out the stanza on a 17-6 push. 

-A three from Witter would give Springfield a 21-point edge, but a three by Clark freshman Patrick Bugler (Marblehead, Mass.) at the horn made it a 50-32 ball game at the half.

-Springfield shot 61% from the floor and outscored the visitors 26-6 in the paint in the opening 20 minutes of play. 

Second Half

-A free throw from Gayman would pull Clark within 15 at 58-43 with 13:53 left in regulation.

-Springfield erupted for a 16-0 run over the next four-plus minutes, burying four three-pointers, including a pair by Witter, to take a commanding 31-point advantage at 74-43. 

-Witter drilled Springfield's 10th three-pointer of the half with 1:18 remaining to give the hosts a 100-60 lead.

-Freshman Eian Gannon (Clinton, Mass.) knocked down a three-pointer with 29 seconds to play and closed out scoring for Clark. The Pride took the Ultimate 101-63 victory.


- Clark had 14 different players play at least seven minutes, with McCormick tallying a team-best 10 points. Tyler Davern (Webster, Mass.), Gayman, and Adam Converse (Woodstock, Conn.) each totaled eight points as the Cougars finished the game shooting 24-for-57 (42%).

-The Pride shot 38-for-64 (59%) and totaled 30 assists. Springfield drilled 16 three-pointers in the game and dominated the boards, holding a 42-21 advantage. The Pride finished the game with seven student-athletes scoring in double figures


-Clark hosts NEWMAC opponent Babson College on Saturday, January 13th at 1:00 p.m.

-The Pride travels to Emerson College on the same day for a conference contest at 1:00 p.m.
