Cougars Earn Comeback Victory Over AMCATS, 79-71

-The Lead: Lead by a 31-point, 10-rebound night from junior Luca McCormick (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) the Clark University men's basketball team defeated the visiting AMCATS of Anna Maria College, 79-71, on Tuesday evening.



-The AMCATS started the game on a 3-0 run to claim an early 7-0 lead highlighted by a three-pointer from senior Liam Pickett (Oxford, Mass.).

-The Cougars responded with a three-pointer from McCormick with 16:50 on the clock, but the AMCATS wasted no time and fed the ball to Pickett for another three on their next time down the court (10-3).

-This was the start of a 5-0 rally from Anna Maria that gave them an 18-3 lead with 14 minutes to play in the first half.

-Clark freshman Tyler Davern (Webster, Mass.) ended the run for the visitors as he knocked down a three after Dennis Tobin (Medway, Mass.) found him in the corner for the assist.

-A McCormick three at 8:29 and a layup from junior Adam Converse (Woodstock, Conn.) at 6:59 brought the Cougars within just five points of the AMCATS (28-23).

-Freshman Biko Gayman (Fort Pierce, Fla.) tallied five points in a row for Clark with just under five minutes to play to tighten Anna Maria's lead to 30-28.

-The AMCATS were able to hold onto their lead and entered the halftime break up 43-37.


-It wasn't until the 10:12 mark that Clark was able to take their first lead of the game. Freshman Anthony Grzembski (Webster, Mass.) stepped behind the arc and drained a three on a feed from John Pisacreta (Andover, Mass.) for the 53-51 advantage. Just 30 second later the Cougars came back down the court and fed Grzembski the ball again and he put away another three for the 56-51 lead. To make it a 3-0 run for Clark the freshman knocked down yet another three at the 8:30 mark to extend the Cougar's lead to 59-53.

-A 3-0 run for the visitors brought them back within one point and they were able to regain the lead on layups from junior Sidney Limage (Randolph, Mass.) and sophomore Mike Rapoza (Charlton, Mass.) (66-63).

-Clark sealed the deal on five points from McCormick from a three-pointer and two free throws made and a pair of last minute free throws from Pisacreta for the ultimate 79-71 victory


-McCormick led the Cougars with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the victory. He was 9-for-10 at the free-throw line and 4-for-8 from behind the arc.

-Converse came off the bench with 13 points for Clark while Grzembski added 12 points.

-The Cougars shot 41.3% from the field and 82.4% from the free throw line. They were 14-for-17 at the free throw line (10-for-11 in the second half).

-Anna Maria was led by Rapoza who had 23 points and 15 rebounds for the double-double.

-Limage chipped in with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

-The AMCATS shot 45.3% from field goal range and 71.4% from the free throw line (10-for-14).

-Clark forced 10 Anna Maria turnovers and converted them to 11 points.


-Clark hosts Connecticut College on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action.

-The AMCATS hit the road on the same day for a game at Regis College at 6:00 p.m.
