Worcester, Mass. – After one of the hottest weeks in recent memory, Clark University star guard Joe Atkinson (Milford, Mass.) has been named to the D3Hoops.com men's basketball team of the week it was revealed on Monday evening.
Atkinson was otherworldly in two games last week as the Cougars went 1-1 to improve to 4-2 overall.
In an 84-74 loss at Connecticut College, Atkinson finished with 19 points and ten rebounds while shooting 6-for-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from behind the arc.
Then, in a 79-67 win over Worcester area rival Becker College, Atkinson pumped in a career-high 32 points and pulled down ten more rebounds. He shot an impressive 12-for-14 from the field, including going 8-for-8 from behind the three point line.
Atkinson's perfect performance from three-point land is tied for the most made three-pointers in a game in all of Division III this season without a miss. Two days after his perfect performance, Mike Turner of Oglethorpe University went 11-for-11 from the field (8-for-8 3-pointers) on his way to 31 points in a 120-104 win over Berry.
For the week, Atkinson averaged 25.5 points, ten rebounds while shooting 69 percent from the field (18-for-26) and 12-for-13 from three-point land (92 percent).
So far this season, Atkinson is averaging 14.5 points, a team-best 7.3 rebounds and leads the nation in three-point shooting (72 percent).
Clark returns to the hardwood on Tuesday evening with a visit from Fitchburg State. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
